CENTRE FOR PERIOPERATIVE CARE (CPOC) FELLOWSHIP

Vacancy

Are you looking for an engaging fellowship working across specialties in the perioperative field? Are you interested in learning about and improving healthcare on a national level?

Our Fellowship is for one year (August 2024 to August 2025, but other timings may be considered). This year-long 0.5 FTE fellowship runs simultaneously alongside your substantive clinical role. Much of the work is flexible with online meetings, writing, reading, research, media work, projects and presentations. There will be a few meetings requiring travel to London and elsewhere in the UK, with suitable expenses paid.

You would be our fifth Fellow! Previous Fellows have said: “I had a great time. I learnt a lot, working on national guidance and speaking. It was really interesting liaising with patients, charities and other professions. I felt much more ready for my Consultant post

"The CPOC fellowship gave me an insight into how healthcare works at the highest levels, something I wouldn’t otherwise have been privy to as a trainee. The opportunities to work on national projects and collaborate with experts in the field have been invaluable.”

And check out our 2022-2023 fellow’s reflection in our July newsletter.

Perioperative care encompasses everything from the moment surgery is contemplated through to full recovery. The Centre for Perioperative Care (CPOC) is a cross-organisational, multidisciplinary collaborative between patients and the public, Royal Colleges and professional organisations.

CPOC is now inviting applications for a 2024 – 2025 CPOC Fellow. You should be motivated, resourceful and in a specialty or department that is part of the perioperative journey. We welcome applications from all doctors and registered healthcare professionals who are undertaking or have achieved a higher postgraduate academic qualification, such as a Masters or Diploma in Clinical Practice.

CPOC Fellowship

CPOC is offering this exciting 12-month Fellowship to support the development and delivery of the CPOC strategy. This is a unique opportunity to challenge and enhance your skills in networking, leadership and advocacy with a high-performing team in perioperative care. The role will provide ample opportunity to engage with stakeholders at all levels as a voice for perioperative care and input on CPOC’s workstreams.

There is no direct payment for the role. The post is supported by the backfill cost of 0.5 WTE to your employer to enable the successful candidate to dedicate a minimum of 20 hours per week to the role. The Fellowship will involve a combination of local working at the appointee’s employing Trust/Board/Practice and national working with the CPOC leadership.

Although the post and CPOC are largely funded by the Royal College of Anaesthetists, we welcome applicants from all specialties, including Surgery, General Practice, Emergency Medicine, Geriatrics, Public Health, Paediatrics, Internal Medicine, etc.

Application Details

Applicants should submit a CV, a supporting statement about their suitability for the role and a one-page letter of support from their Head of Department/line manager.  This must include contact details (daytime telephone and email address).

At CPOC, diversity, equality and inclusion is an integral part of our culture so it is important to us that this is reflected in everything that we do. We welcome applications from all individuals irrespective of age, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion or belief, disability, or parental/caring responsibilities to ensure we actively embrace an inclusive and representative culture that encourages, supports and celebrates our differences.
