SCTS Adult Cardiac Sub-Committees 

SCTS Adult Cardiac Sub-Committees - Expressions of Interest Request for two Core Committee members.

We are seeking expressions of interest for two posts, from Consultant Surgeons to become appointed as Core members of the SCTS Adult Cardiac Surgery Sub-Committees. We are looking for dynamic and committed surgeons who will enjoy the role and benefit from the opportunities it presents to work more closely with the Society. Becoming an appointed member is an excellent opportunity for continued professional development and for the individual to make a difference nationally on the development of their sub-specialty.

The term of appointment is 3 years.
 

The purpose of the sub-committees is to debate matters pertaining to that sub-specialty, including:

  • Providing a leadership role in the evolution of the sub-specialty
  • Producing examples of best practice and quality improvement projects
  • Reviewing NICE recommendations
  • Developing an SCTS-led national audit strategy of the sub-specialty
  • Liaising with Commissioning Groups and Service Specification Review Groups
  • Reviewing job descriptions for Consultant appointments 
  • Developing the sub-specialty section of the SCTS website, including recently published manuscripts and guidelines to guide contemporary practice.

The majority of business of the sub-specialty sub-committees is performed by conference calls. The post holder will be involved in multiple discussions, projects and monthly meeting of the core group. There are two formal meeting of the wider sub-committee that takes place, usually a hybrid format, with one of the meeting during the SCTS Annual Meeting (usually in March).

SCTS Thoracic Surgery Sub-committee Deputy Co-chair

The SCTS is seeking expressions of interest from Consultant Thoracic Surgeons for the role of Deputy Co-chair of the Thoracic Surgery Sub-committee.

We are looking for a dynamic and committed surgeon who will enjoy the role and benefit from the opportunities it presents to work more closely with the Society. Becoming Deputy Sub-committee Co-chair is an excellent opportunity for continued professional development and making a difference in the development of Thoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland. It is essential that anyone applying to become Deputy Co-chair of the Sub-committee is a member of the SCTS.

The term of appointment is three years.

The purpose of the Thoracic Surgery Sub-committee is to debate matters relating to the sub-specialty, including:

  • Providing a national role in the evolution of Thoracic Surgery
  • Producing examples of best practice and quality improvement projects
  • Reviewing NICE recommendations
  • With the Audit Sub-committee, leading the SCTS audit strategy for Thoracic Surgery, collaborating with the NLCA, NCIP, and other national organisations
  • Liaising with commissioning groups and the National Clinical Review Group, including contributing to the development and regular review of the national service specification
  • Reviewing job descriptions for consultant appointments
  • Developing the Thoracic Surgery section of the SCTS website, including recently published manuscripts and guidelines to guide contemporary practice, in collaboration with the Communications Sub-committee.

Most of the business of the Sub-committee is performed through monthly conference calls, with one formal meeting in person at the SCTS Annual Meeting (usually in March).

This postholder will work alongside the Co-Chair and the Executive Co-Chair in leading the committee.

The responsibilities of this post include working with Co-Chair and Executive Co-Chair on the following:

  • Leading the sub-committee
  • Organising and chairing regular, formally minuted sub-committee meetings
  • Advising the SCTS Executive and Board on relevant issues
  • Representing the SCTS and liaising with other organisations at the request of the SCTS Executive

The post is not remunerated, and it will require the successful candidate to seek support from their Trust and to negotiate their job plan to enable the delivery of the role. Informal discussions may be held with Doug West (Thoracic Executive Co-Chair and Honorary Secretary), and Rory Beattie (Thoracic Subcommittee Co-Chair).
