SCTS Congenital Cardiac Surgery Sub-Committee Co-chair

SCTS Congenital Cardiac Surgery Sub-Committee Co-chair
 
The SCTS is seeking expressions of interest from Consultant Congenital Cardiac Surgeons for the role of Co-chair of the Congenital Cardiac Surgery Sub-Committee. We are looking for a dynamic and committed surgeon who will enjoy the role and benefit from the opportunities it presents to work more closely with the Society. Becoming Sub-Committee Co-chair is an excellent opportunity for continued professional development and making a difference in the development of Congenital Cardiac Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland. It is essential that all applicants are members of the SCTS.
 
The term of appointment is three years.
 
The purpose of the Congenital Cardiac Surgery Sub-committee is to debate matters relating to the sub-specialty, including:

  • Providing a national role in the evolution of Congenital Cardiac Surgery
  • Producing examples of best practice and quality improvement projects
  • Reviewing NICE recommendations
  • Liaising with commissioning groups and the National Clinical Review Group, including contributing to the development and regular review of the national service specification
  • Reviewing job descriptions for consultant appointments
  • Developing the Congenital Cardiac Surgery section of the SCTS website, including recently published manuscripts and guidelines to guide contemporary practice, in collaboration with the Communications Sub-committee.

 
Most of the business of the Sub-committee is performed through regular conference calls, with one formal meeting in person at the SCTS Annual Meeting (usually in March).
 
The responsibilities of the Congenital Cardiac Surgery Sub-committee Co-chair include:

  • Leading the sub-committee
  • Organising and chairing regular, formally minuted sub-committee meetings
  • Advising the SCTS Executive and Board on relevant issues
  • Representing the SCTS and liaising with other organisations at the request of the SCTS Executive


The post is not remunerated, and it will require the successful candidate to seek support from their Trust and to negotiate their job plan to enable the delivery of the role. Informal discussions may be held with Karen Redmond (Congenital Cardiac Executive Co-Chair and Honorary Treasurer), and Aman Coonar (President).

SCTS Thoracic Surgery Sub-committee Co-chair

SCTS Thoracic Surgery Sub-committee Co-chair
 
The SCTS is seeking expressions of interest from Consultant Thoracic Surgeons for the role of Co-chair of the Thoracic Surgery Sub-committee. We are looking for a dynamic and committed surgeon who will enjoy the role and benefit from the opportunities it presents to work more closely with the Society. Becoming Sub-committee Co-chair is an excellent opportunity for continued professional development and making a difference in the development of Thoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland. It is essential that anyone applying to become Co-chair of the Sub-committee is a member of the SCTS.
 
The term of appointment is three years.
 
The purpose of the Thoracic Surgery Sub-committee is to debate matters relating to the sub-specialty, including:

  • Providing a national role in the evolution of Thoracic Surgery
  • Producing examples of best practice and quality improvement projects
  • Reviewing NICE recommendations with the Audit Sub-committee, leading the SCTS audit strategy for Thoracic Surgery, collaborating with the NLCA, NCIP, and other national organisations
  • Liaising with commissioning groups and the National Clinical Review Group, including contributing to the development and regular review of the national service specification
  • Reviewing job descriptions for consultant appointments
  • Developing the Thoracic Surgery section of the SCTS website, including recently published manuscripts and guidelines to guide contemporary practice, in collaboration with the Communications Sub-committee.

This postholder will work alongside the Executive Co-Chair in leading the committee.  They are assisted by a Deputy Co-Chair.

  • Leading the sub-committee
  • Organising and chairing regular, formally minuted sub-committee meetings
  • Advising the SCTS Executive and Board on relevant issues
  • Representing the SCTS and liaising with other organisations at the request of the SCTS Executive

SCTS Associate Meeting Secretary

SCTS Associate Meeting Secretary
 
The SCTS is seeking expressions of interest from consultant surgeons for the role of Associate Meeting Secretary. Whilst the overall responsibility for the organisation and running of the SCTS Annual Meeting rests with the Meeting Secretary (is one of the nominated Trustees). The Deputy and Associate Meeting Secretaries are expected to work closely with the Meeting team to allow a seamless transition from Associate to Deputy and Deputy to Meeting Secretary after the second and fourth years. The minimum term is three years within the Meetings Team.
 
The successful candidate will need to be available for approximately eight days over the course of a year for regular organiser meetings.  They will need to be available a further four days during the Annual Meeting and for occasional ad hoc site visits. 
 
The Associate Meeting Secretary is specifically responsible for:
  • Setting an Annual Meeting budget in conjunction with the Honorary Treasurer, Meeting Secretary and their Deputy.
  • Maintaining the online event manager to coordinate abstracts, presenters, presentations, and attendees.
  • Defining registration fees in conjunction with the Meeting Secretary and Treasurer
  • Defining venue requirements, negotiating with venues, and ensuring requirements are fulfilled.
  • Organising the exhibition, to include:
  • Designing shell scheme requirements, selecting a shell scheme company, and ensuring requirements are met
  • Securing and invoicing exhibitors
  • Helping with securing meeting sponsors
  • Designing audio-visual requirements, selecting an audio-visual company, and ensuring requirements are met.
  • Designing catering requirements, selecting a catering company, and ensuring requirements are met.
  • Site visits

SCTS Trustee & Communications Secretary

SCTS Trustee & Communications Secretary
 
The Society has established the SCTS Communications Sub-Committee, led by the Communications secretary with the purpose of providing a leadership role in coordinating the overall strategy on how the Society communicates with its membership and the general public.
 
In view of this, the SCTS are seeking expressions of interest from Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeons to become SCTS Communication secretary and the Co-chair of the Communications Sub-Committee. This will be an excellent opportunity for continued professional development and for the individual to make a difference nationally. It is essential that anyone applying to become Co-chair of the Sub-Committee is a member of the SCTS.
The Communication secretary will also be a Trustee of SCTS and a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
 
The responsibilities will include:
  • Maintaining an up to date, informative and professional website with appropriate content for the use of the SCTS sub-committees, membership, external stakeholders and the general public, including contemporary guidelines, outcome data, quality standards, examples of best practice and quality improvement projects, important recent publications and guidance for the introduction of new technology
  • Defining and implementing the SCTS’s strategic approach to social media
  • Producing and distributing the SCTS Bulletin publication
  • Producing and promoting high quality reference information (videos and written information) regarding all aspects of cardiothoracic surgery for both patients and healthcare professionals
  • Promoting and advertising important cardiothoracic surgery events, including professional meetings, conferences and educational courses
  • Developing and implementing an effective strategy for dealing with media enquiries and tracking media worthy content
  • Interacting with industry to optimise the support and sponsorship of SCTS-led educational, research and audit projects
  • Interacting with the Business Development Leads to promote and integrate fund raising activities.
  • Working with the Chairs of different committees to showcase their achievements and act as a facilitator to disseminate relevant matters.
  • Engage with patients and public and be an active facilitators in the Friends of SCTS

The post has a 3-year tenure, with the potential for a 1-year extension.
