Pet Therapy

During the lunch break on Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th March, we will be visited by Therapet managed by Canine Concern Scotland Trust, for delegates to spend time with 4-6 dogs.

For some years now it has been recognised, more and more, that pets are good for us! Indeed, it has been scientifically proven that the mere action of stroking a dog, or cat, slows down the heartbeat, reduces blood pressure, and makes someone who has already suffered a heart attack much less likely to have another.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why the Chess Branding?

The Lewis Chessmen are a collection of 93 chess pieces carved from walrus ivory and whale tooth that were discovered in 1831 on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland. The pieces were found in a stone cist on the beach at Uig by a local man named Malcolm "Sprot" MacLeod. The chessmen are believed to have been made in Norway between 1150 and 1200, when the area was part of Norway. The pieces are considered to be among the most famous chess pieces in the world and are known for their unusual and beautiful carvings.

The Lewis chess pieces are on display in the Kingdom of Scots at the National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh.
