INSINC Insight

The SCTS INSINC Committee is very proud to announce 'INSINC Insight', a work experience scheme for sixth form students from widening participation backgrounds. This multifaceted programme will include a lecture series, careers evening and a hospital shadowing placement for students in Bristol, Leicester and Leeds.

Whilst we are only able to offer the shadowing to a select number of students in these cities at the moment, our lecture series and careers evening will be virtual, and all are welcome to attend.
As such, please feel free to advertise this to any schools you may have connections with, or sixth form students you feel may be interested. The poster below includes all the relevant information, including how to signup, but there is also a sign-up

link here

Whilst we are still in the early stages of developing this scheme, we are very hopeful of it’s potential to be rolled out across the UK in the future and therefore would be delighted to hear from any representatives interested in extending this scheme in their centre. Please get in touch with our committee on sctsinsinc@gmail.com

The SCTS INSINC mentorship program aims to connect doctors in cardiothoracic surgery training with medical students interested in pursuing a career in the specialty.

This is an inaugural program and our first round of matching for mentor-mentees took place in June 2024. Applications for the next round will begin in spring 2025 – please keep an eye out through the SCTS newsletter and SCTS INSINC social media!

We aim to match mentors and mentees based on geographical location when possible to maximise chances of in-person meetings. Mentorship groups will consist of one mentor and 1-3 mentees. Once matched, the mentorship will be active for a 12 month period. We recommend mentors and mentees meet every 1-2 months, either virtually over video call (eg: Zoom, Teams) or in-person. The INSINC committee is available throughout the year should queries or concerns arise. Please contact sctsinsinc@gmail.com.

Upon completion of a feedback form at the end of the year, INSINC will provide certificates of recognition for mentors and mentees.

All applicants (mentors and mentees) of the SCTS INSINC Mentorship Scheme must have a current SCTS membership or have applied for membership to be considered. Membership is free for students, the application should be submitted at the following website: https://scts.org/join/
