Remembering Anthony
I am right now stunned and deeply saddened by the sudden passing of our friend and colleague, Mr Anthony Chambers, Consultant Thoracic Surgeon in Edinburgh.
Anthony was not only a very fine surgeon but also a warm and generous soul. He cared deeply for his patients and team, and his compassion and gentle humour brought comfort. Many of us will remember the way he listened, the way he encouraged, and the way he made time for people.
His skill and dedication have left a lasting mark. For those who had the privilege to know or work with him, his warmth and humanity will also be remembered.
Anthony’s father, David is a distinguished scientist and friend and is well known to many of us in SCTS.
Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with him, and with all of Anthony’s family, friends, and colleagues at this profoundly sad time.

Anthony and I were in the same NTN group when I joined at ST3 (although he was part of the first ST1 run-through group). I saw him a lot over the years, therefore, at the SCTS boot-camp courses and social events. A very charismatic gentleman who was well respected by his colleagues. A great ambassador of the next generation of thoracic surgery, sadly taken away too soon. My condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.

Very sad to hear this news. I met Anthony as a young trainee when I was the SAC liaison for Scotland and knew he was destined for a great career. This is so sad and my condolences to his friends and family.

Anthony worked at Guy’s for a year. He was a valued member of the team, making a unique contribution to our department while improving his robotic skills. We all heard this news with great shock and sadness our thoughts are with Anthony’s family and colleagues in Edinburgh.

No words can describe the most devastating and very sad news . I was his former secretary at RIE now retired and knew Anthony as a Specialist Registrar then Thoracic Consultant surgeon. He was an absolute delight to work with and will be sorely missed by everyone who had the pleasure to work with and know him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues at this very difficult and sad time. Rest in peace my special boy you will always have a special place in my heart 🙏💔🌹😢🌟.

Ant was much more than just a thoracic surgeon or even a doctor. Despite having been his colleague for a long time, I only came to know and appreciate a more personal side of him in the past few years. He loved sports, art and travel. His family and friends were very important to him. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing and my sympathies go out to his loved ones. I pray that those closest to him will find comfort in the happy memories that they will always have of him. Rest in peace, my friend.

I only had the pleasure of knowing Anthony briefly during my fourth-year cardiothoracic placement, but to say he changed my view of medicine and life in general would be to sell short the immense impact he had on me. I shall remember him fondly. Sleep well, my mentor.

Anthony, not only a skilled surgeon, but a true doctor. Your patients loved you. You always took the time to see them, and they always appreciated your kindness. This was not lost on the nurses of CTS HDU, we were very proud to have worked with you.
Rest easy now, your good work will always be remembered, and your quiet care will be missed.

As a recent patient of Mr Chambers, I was both shocked and saddened to hear of his untimely passing. He was a talented surgeon for whose skill I will always be very grateful. He was also a thoughtful, friendly and reassuring presence during my two courses of treatment. I count myself extremely lucky to have been in his care. His family must be devastated, and are very much in my thoughts.
