SCTS Congenital Cardiac Surgery Sub-Committee Co-chair

SCTS Congenital Cardiac Surgery Sub-Committee Co-chair

Application Form

The SCTS is seeking expressions of interest from Consultant Congenital Cardiac Surgeons for the role of Co-chair of the Congenital Cardiac Surgery Sub-Committee. We are looking for a dynamic and committed surgeon who will enjoy the role and benefit from the opportunities it presents to work more closely with the Society. Becoming Sub-Committee Co-chair is an excellent opportunity for continued professional development and making a difference in the development of Congenital Cardiac Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland. It is essential that all applicants are members of the SCTS.

The term of appointment is three years.

The purpose of the Congenital Cardiac Surgery Sub-committee is to debate matters relating to the sub-specialty, including:

  • Providing a national role in the evolution of Congenital Cardiac Surgery
  • Producing examples of best practice and quality improvement projects
  • Reviewing NICE recommendations
  • Liaising with commissioning groups and the National Clinical Review Group, including contributing to the development and regular review of the national service specification
  • Reviewing job descriptions for consultant appointments
  • Developing the Congenital Cardiac Surgery section of the SCTS website, including recently published manuscripts and guidelines to guide contemporary practice, in collaboration with the Communications Sub-committee.

Most of the business of the Sub-committee is performed through regular conference calls, with one formal meeting in person at the SCTS Annual Meeting (usually in March).

The responsibilities of the Congenital Cardiac Surgery Sub-committee Co-chair include:

  • Leading the sub-committee
  • Organising and chairing regular, formally minuted sub-committee meetings
  • Advising the SCTS Executive and Board on relevant issues
  • Representing the SCTS and liaising with other organisations at the request of the SCTS Executive

The post is not remunerated, and it will require the successful candidate to seek support from their Trust and to negotiate their job plan to enable the delivery of the role. Informal discussions may be held with Karen Redmond (Congenital Cardiac Executive Co-Chair and Honorary Treasurer), and Aman Coonar (President).

Interested members should submit a brief CV and a completed application form to nadi@scts.org by 14:00 on Monday 2nd February 2026.
