SCTS Medical Student Mentorship Programme

The Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery (SCTS) is proud to announce the launch of its Medical Student Mentorship Programme, with the aim to inspire and support medical students interested in a career in cardiothoracic surgery.

The programme is an opportunity for medical students, at any stage of their university course, who are aspiring for a career in cardiothoracic surgery, to develop a mentoring relationship with a cardiothoracic surgical trainee or clinical fellow.

The mentorship programme will allow the mentee to gain support and advice on a number of areas, including career development, achieving work-life balance, sub-specialty training, working less-than-full-time, research and academic collaborations, and leadership development, as well as networking opportunities.

The expectations of the mentees and mentor will be:

  • Generation of an action plan with specific goals identified in career development, research collaboration or leadership development, as appropriate.
  • Meeting for 1 hour every month via a video conferencing platform, for a 12-month period (or beyond if both parties were in agreement).
  • Attendance at the Medical Student Mentoring Programme Networking Session at the Annual Meeting

Interested mentees and mentors should submit a brief CV and a completed application form to Isabelle Ferner (isabelle@scts.org).

Applicants to the programme must be an SCTS member.
