Prof Nölke graduated with an honours degree from RCSI in 1993. He completed his cardiothoracic training in Ireland in 2003 before spending two years at University of California at San Franscisco as Visiting Assistant Professor. Following his return to Ireland, he took up his post as consultant cardiothoracic surgeon with a special interest in congenital cardiothoracic surgrey and transplantation at the Mater Misericordiae University Hosptial and Children’s Hospital Ireland at Crumlin. 

Since return to Ireland Prof Nölke has been Program director of the National Cardiiothoracic training program. He has been head of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Heart and Lung transplantation at the Mater Misericordiae University Hosptial and in recent times he has taken up the post of Clinical Director of the Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Renal and Endocrine direcorate at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital.

Prof Nölke’s additiional roles include responsible person for the Irish Heart Valve Bank and Clinical lead for the Extracorporeal Life Support program at CHI at Crumlin.
