Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm Service within Cardiac Surgery at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital and gain experience of complex thoracic and thoracoabdominal aortic surgery. The service in integrated with Vascular Surgery through Liverpool Vascular and Endovascular Service (LiVES) and Liverpool Cardiovascular Surgery (LCS).

Main duties of the job

The position is entirely based within the Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm Service with no obligation to the general cardiothoracic middle grade on-call system, clinic cover or theatres.

The post is initially for a 6 month period with a potential for extension to 12 months and in exceptional circumstances to 18 months, after review and mutual agreement.

Experience will be provided in all aspects of aortic surgery from root to aortic bifurcation including open, endovascular and hybrid approaches. National and international candidates are welcome to apply and the post is not restricted to UK National Trainees but candidates should have a certificate of completion of specialty surgical training.

The position is open to candidates with either cardiac or vascular surgical training, preferably towards the end of training or newly appointed at consultant level. There are currently two Aortic Fellows and the exact working arrangements will depend upon background, experience and needs of the appointee.
