How is magnesium used to prevent atrial fibrillation after cardiac surgery (AFACS) in current practice across the UK?

Survey

The team behind the Tight K Trial* are looking to develop a clinical trial focussing on the use of magnesium to prevent AFACS. To inform the protocol for the Magnesium trial, we want to understand how magnesium is used by individual caregivers to prevent AFACS in current practice across the UK and we have developed an online survey to capture this information.

The survey can be completed by any consultant managing cardiac surgery patients including surgeons, anaesthetists, cardiologists, perioperative physicians, or intensivists.  The survey takes 20 minutes to complete and can be accessed using this link.

* Tight K is a multi-centre, randomised controlled trial to determine whether maintaining serum potassium levels at ≥ 3.6 mEq/L is non-inferior to normal treatment (≥ 4.5 mEq/L) on the occurrence of new-onset AFACS in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery.  The study will recruit 1684 participants and will complete recruitment at the end of 2023.
