Here at SCTS we support and encourage diversity.  Since 2021 we have created national mentorship, work experience schemes and carried out national surveys to identify educational gaps and ways in which we can support new members from all walks of life to enter our specialty.  Medical student membership has grown from 90 to 295 in just 2 years, school students from widening participation background have started a SCTS supported work experience scheme with educational one note packs, reflective writing series and medical student mentorship to help gaining placement at medical school.  SCTS continues to challenge membership on the issues that matter most and will continue to do so.

 

Cardiothoracic Surgery thrives on providing innovative, safe and sustainable care throughout the spectrum of heart and lung disease, we can only attain this by supporting members of all gender, colour and race to work together, representing the patients they treat with the empathy they deserve.
