Prof Karen Redmond - Consultant Thoracic Surgeon and Transplant Surgeon

We welcome and congratulate Prof Karen Redmond, Consultant Thoracic Surgeon and Transplant Surgeon at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin, who has been elected as Trustee of SCTS.
After consulting at the Royal Brompton and Harefield Trust in the UK, Professor Redmond returned to Dublin, Ireland, in 2011 to expand the thoracic surgery and national lung transplant unit at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital.
She previously trained in her subspecialty field of thoracic surgery and lung transplantation at Toronto General Hospital, Canada. Her interest is in lung transplantation and in pioneering new techniques in the areas of robotics, iVATS, LVR, pectus, convergent and tracheobronchoplasty. She is an examiner for the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examinations. She directs an academic programme, supervising grant-funded MD and PhD students in such areas as pulmonary rehabilitation, health economics and EVLP, supporting a number of publications in peer-reviewed journals. She is an associate editor of Transplant International. She is a member of a number of national and international committees, including The Irish Thoracic Society Council and now a Trustee supporting activities within the SCTS.
