SCTS Virtual Annual Meeting 2021 - Postponed
11 January 2021
Dear all
The resurgence of COVID infection in the past few weeks has once again strained National Health services and is testing the resilience of its workforce. As expected, people have risen to the challenge and are working assiduously with compassion and care. The junior doctors, nurses and Allied Health professionals in particular, are at the forefront of this battle.
The ethos of the SCTS annual meeting has been to enable the cardiothoracic community to keep up-to-date with current knowledge, learn from each other’s experiences and share best practice through interaction, with a common goal of improving care for our patients. After deliberating with members around the country we have realized that the meeting coincides with the peak of the second wave of COVID infection and will be a distraction for the core audience engaged in looking after patients. It will be impractical, even in a virtual format, to expect active and enthusiastic participation of the target audience, already over stretched with work, and will thus defeat the very purpose of our annual meeting.
We have therefore taken the difficult decision to postpone our SCTS Annual meeting, Ionescu University and Forum scheduled for 7-9th February 2021.
We are exploring with epidemiologists and experts to decide on the new date and will inform you the next few days.
We request that you please continue to register, (we have extended the early bird registration fees indefinitely), record and load your presentations and posters, and keep up your good and vital work.
And of course keep practicing for the 5K run!
Stay safe, and we’ll be in touch with more information soon.
