ST2 Essential Skills in Cardiothoracic Surgery

Overview

The aim of the course is to provide a systematic overview of all the Essential Skills required for a trainee early in their cardiothoracic surgery career, including small-group teaching on cardiothoracic anatomy, imaging, preoperative assessment and post-operative management.

The course will also give the candidates the opportunity to perform operative cardiothoracic surgical procedures during the wet-lab sessions. In addition, the candidates will be given an understanding of the National Selection process for cardiothoracic ST1 and ST3 posts from the SAC chairman and a recently successful trainee, as well as insight into life as a day 1 cardiothoracic ST3 trainee.
