SCTS Congenital Cardiac Surgery Course

Programme

SCTS has an established role in education within Cardiothoracic Specialty.

In recognition of the peculiar nature of training in Congenital Cardiac Surgery and the dedication of clinical fellows in providing service within the CHD Centres, SCTS Education is supporting the organisation and attendance of a dedicated Congenital Heart Surgery Hands-on Course.

Topics: 

Surgical techniques to address LVOTO (subaortic, aortic, supraortic stenosis). Including Ross operation on piglets and pigs hearts

Preparation materials will be distributed ahead of the course

Attendees: CHD Clinical Fellows, Trust doctors and NTN. 

Please note that this course is only open to those who have not attended previously.

Fees: No fees to be paid for course attendance (£200 refundable deposit required to secure a place on the course only), with accommodation for 1 night and meals: 1 supper, 1 breakfast, 1 lunch and coffee breaks.

SCTS membership: Active Membership to SCTS is not required, but we encourage application.

Stations:  

  • Anatomy demonstration of the AV and Subaortic area and the PV and RVOT in preparation for the Ross operation
  • Subaortic exposure and septal myectomy
  • AV repair by commissurotomy and leaflet resuspension
  • Supraortic pantaloon patch aortic enlargement
  • Subaortic tunnel and modified Ross operation
  • Ross Operation
