About the unit

All types of adult cardiac surgery are performed including thoracoabdominal aortic surgery. The unit performs about 800 adult cardiac procedures a year, utilising 2 cardiac theatres, 8 ITU and 8 HDU beds. The surgical ward has 21 beds for cardiac patients and 5 beds for thoracic patients.

Rehabilitation and follow up

Follow up is generally 4-6 weeks to the appropriate surgeon with a discharge back to the GP or referring cardiologist if required. Cardiac rehabilitation is provided locally for catchment patients or if from an adjacent area the appropriate contact is made with the local hospital's rehab team to ensure continuity of care.

Access

Cars are allowed to pull in front of the Cardiac Centre and there is a limited number of parking spaces in front of the building. Full parking facilities are available within 600 yards of the building.

Visiting hours

Ward visiting is 11:00-14:00 and 16:00-20:00 with a quiet time between 14:00 and 16:00. For intensive care open visiting all day for 24 hours.
