Writing a biography that captures more than two decades of training, practice, and growth is never simple. Yet the essence of Mr Haytham Sabry’s career can be distilled into two themes: a deep commitment to treating patients as individuals and a relentless pursuit of surgical excellence.

Mr Sabry graduated from Cairo University in 2006 and began his formal training in cardiac surgery shortly thereafter. A formative year at the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation in Aswan deepened his appreciation for complex valve surgery. He then continued his training in the United Kingdom, spending more than seven years across London and Essex with a strong focus on Mitral valve repair. A subspecialised fellowship in beating-heart coronary artery bypass (OPCAB) further expanded his expertise and reinforced his commitment to advanced, patient-centred revascularisation strategies. These experiences culminated in his appointment as Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital — one of the UK’s leading centres of excellence.

His current areas of interest reflect both the breadth of cardiac surgery and the depth of subspecialisation he has pursued:

  • Mitral and tricuspid valve surgery: A long-standing passion, mitral valve repair has become a core part of his practice. He employs a wide variety of techniques to restore valve function and has developed particular expertise in mitral annular calcification. He is among the few in the UK offering open trans-catheter mitral valve replacement for such complex patients. He also actively addresses tricuspid valve disease, applying a range of repair techniques to a valve often historically overlooked.
  • Advanced coronary artery bypass surgery: Beating-heart coronary artery bypass is his preferred technique. He routinely employs multiple arterial grafts, in line with evidence favouring arterial over venous conduits. In selected patients, he offers total arterial revascularisation in a highly specialised approach that reduces neurological risks.
  • Atrial fibrillation surgery: Recognising the disabling impact of AF on the patients, he routinely incorporates, when indicated, surgical treatment of AF to restore normal heart rhythm, together with closing a blind-ended sac inside the heart (left atrial appendage) thus reducing the risk of stroke.

Mr recognises that every patient carries their own story, and he strives to meet them on a human level. He offers clear, honest consultations, engaging his patients in shared decision-making. His practice is guided by integrity, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to doing what is best for each patient.
