Mr Lawrence Okiror is a Consultant Thoracic and Robotic Surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT), where he leads the Central Airways Service and the Advanced Emphysema Surgical Service. His specialist practice focuses on lung nodule assessment, early lung cancer, minimally invasive and robotic thoracic surgery, and surgical management of advanced emphysema.
Guy's and St Thomas' operates the largest robotic thoracic surgery programme in the United Kingdom, performing 67.6% of resections robotically against a national average of 24%. In 2024–25, Mr Okiror performs >150 anatomic lung resections a year with an operative survival of 99.16%, exceeding the national benchmark of 98.5%. He is clinical audit lead for Thoracic Surgery at GSTT and is part of the GSTT Intraoperative Navigation Bronchoscopy (ION) programme, which has performed over 900 procedures in the last 12 months.
He holds a nationally commissioned practice in lung volume reduction, serving as sole operator for endobronchial valve insertion and lung volume reduction surgery at GSTT and London Bridge Hospital.
He is site co-principal investigator for the MIST-4 trial at GSTT.
Mr Okiror is a member of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Specialty Board at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and is question writer for both the UK Intercollegiate Board and the European Board of Cardiothoracic Surgery. He is Block Lead at King’s College London Medical School. He has over 30 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters
