Mr Nguyen is a consultant surgeon in Derriford hospital and provides Adult Cardiac surgical care for patients from the Devon and Cornwall regions in the United Kingdom. He graduated from Imperial College, University of London and completed his general surgical training on the Hammersmith hospitals training rotation before undertaking specialist training in Cardiac surgery in London, Oxford, Bristol and Derriford cardiac surgery units. This was further enhanced with an advanced surgical fellowship in Toronto, winning two scholarships. His clinical training is complemented by clinical and basic-science research conducted at the National Heart and Lung Institute in London evaluating the effects of cardiopulmonary bypass for which he was awarded his PhD. This was with grants from the British Heart Foundation and Heart Research UK and awarded the SCTS Edwards medal. Professionally, his area of practice includes surgical revascularisation, valve repair and replacement as well as undertaking major aortic reconstructive surgery.
