New Year Message & Call to Action

New Year Message & Call to Action

As we begin 2026, I would like to wish you a very happy, healthy and successful New Year. I hope you have had the chance to rest and recharge. For those who have been working through the Christmas period to sustain services and care for patients, thank you. Your commitment is recognised and valued.

Behind the scenes, SCTS has also been using this period productively. Following a formal interview process, we have appointed a business coach to support the next phase of professionalising our administration and governance. We are delighted to welcome Mr John Cowx, who joins us from a successful business career and is working with SCTS on a voluntary basis. His role is to strengthen our operational foundations and help prepare the ground for the introduction of a Chief Operating Officer. This is an important step in ensuring SCTS is fit for the future.

Alongside this, we continue to drive forward our core priorities: clinical transformation, the development of a presidential board, stronger support for members, high-quality education programmes, strengthening our financial base through fundraising, and wider public and patient engagement. These ambitions will only succeed with your active involvement.

Preparations for our SCTS Annual Meeting (15–17 March 2026) are well underway, and we strongly encourage you to register early.

We will also open bookings on the 9th of  January for our second SCTS London to Brighton Cycle Ride, taking place on 13 September 2026. There will be a discounted early-booking period for the first two weeks. Last year’s inaugural ride was a tremendous success, bringing together surgeons, multidisciplinary teams, patients and supporters, raising over £40,000 and significantly increasing the visibility of SCTS.

In 2026, we aim to go further, and we want you with us!

Our call to action for the year ahead is simple: engage, participate, and help shape the future of our Society.

Register for the Annual Meeting. Sign up for the bike ride. Get involved in our programmes. Encourage colleagues and trainees to do the same.

Together, we can make 2026 a year of momentum, impact and collective progress.

With best wishes for the year ahead.

Aman S Coonar
SCTS President
