National Cardiothoracic Online Programme

Health Education NHS England

The Health Education England (HEE) National Online Training Programme is an initiative aimed at providing online educational resources and training modules for doctors in training across all specialties. The Postgraduate Virtual Learning Environment is or will be available to all resident doctors in training from ST1 level and above, across all specialties within the NHS. Each specialty has a dedicated environment, designed and led by the nationally appointed National Online Training Programme Director and Fellow.

Our Cardiothoracic Surgery initiative will provide both instant-access e-resources and a structured, national virtual teaching programme focused on helping doctors in training prepare for certification and their fellowship examinations. The initial programme roll-out will start from September 2024 and run for two years.

Log in is via: https://pgvle.co.uk/login/index.php and you can view some basic features of the platform prior to receiving your dedicated log in using the 'log in as a guest' function.

You are eligible to request a log in if you meet any of the following criteria:

  • A UK national trainee (NTN) in cardio-thoracic surgery of any level
  • A non-NTN doctor, of ST1 level or equivalent, working in cardio-thoracic surgery in the UK currently, with a long-term career trajectory of becoming a consultant or SAS doctor in cardio-thoracic surgery.
  • A non-NTN doctor actively preparing an application for CESR in cardio-thoracic surgery and currently working in the UK.

Given restrictions in the volume of registrants, doctors below ST1 level equivalent ie. foundation doctors, are not eligible for registration.
