International Women’s Day on Friday 8th March serves as a powerful reminder to celebrate the achievements of women worldwide, support gender equality and highlights the work that still needs to be done.
The 2024 theme of ‘Inspire Inclusion’ underscores the significance of recognising and embracing the diverse experiences and talents, emphasizing the importance of diversity and empowerment. There is a collaborative call for action to create a surgical culture in cardio-thoracic surgery where everyone feels valued and respected, promote equality and challenge stereotypes.
SCTS and WiCTS network are dedicated to inspiring and empowering female surgeons to fulfil their full surgical potential and ambitions, ensure women’s voices are heard and challenge bias and microaggressions. Education and awareness play vital roles in fostering inclusion and empowering women. Through initiatives such as our mentorship programs, work experience schemes and educational workshops, we create opportunities for women to thrive.
