Pioneering Advances in Aortic Dissection Care:

The Elective Aortic Dissection Toolkit

The Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust, after combined discussions with the Department of Health and Social Care & NHS England has gained approval for an Elective Aortic Dissection Toolkit. This toolkit represents a significant leap forward in providing comprehensive, evidence-based care for patients suffering from aortic dissection.

The toolkit emphasises the deployment of specialised multidisciplinary teams along with standardisation of, and improved access to genetic screening for those at risk. These advances promise to improve survival rates, enhance the quality of life for patients, and extend the boundaries of what is possible in cardiothoracic surgery.

Many of you will recall the Lunchbox session at the SCTS annual meeting 2023 in Birmingham, titled "The Future is Here: Towards an Elective Aortic Dissection Toolkit", sponsored by Terumo Aortic. The insights gathered and discussions held during this session were pivotal in shaping TADCT’s proposal. It exemplifies how integrated, collaborative efforts between vascular and cardiac surgical services can substantially improve both elective and acute pathways for treating aortic dissection.
