Simon graduated from medicine in 1983 from the RCSI and went on to complete his training in Dublin, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore and The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto. He was appointed as Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast in 1996 where he worked until his retirement in 2018. He held a number of leadership positions including Clinical Director, Training Programme Director, SAC Member and JCIE Examiner. He was an excellent trainer and mentor, very popular with his trainees and supportive of his colleagues. He was actively involved in service improvement within cardiac surgery.

He was a family man at heart, with a love for cycling and tennis.

Our thoughts are with Simon’s family at this very sad time.

Funeral arrangements are to be announced.

May he rest in peace.
