The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and The Royal College of Surgeons of England are delighted to unveil the Managed Voluntary Register (MVR) for Surgical Care Practitioners alongside the new SCP Curriculum Framework.
A flagship initiative carried out between our two colleges, the MVR provides the opportunity for practising and trainee SCPs in the UK to:
- demonstrate to peers, employers, and patients that they are appropriately qualified and working to the standards expected by the two colleges, and committed to professional development
- Access a curriculum designed specifically to develop your career as an SCP
- Become part of a family of the wider Surgical Team with all the support of the two largest Surgical Colleges in the UK
- Network with fellow SCPs and the wider surgical team
- Engage with the wider College at key events & conferences
The new curriculum framework sets the clinical, technical, and professional standards expected of a professional practitioner working in this defined role of surgical care and will be adopted by UK Higher Education Institutions (HEI) in developing and delivering SCP postgraduate education programmes. This benefits SCPs through:
- Effective guidance in developing as an SCP
- Supports high quality, safe and effective care
- Develops leadership skills to lead the wider surgical team
- Supports education development of those following an MSc in Surgical Care Practice
This joint project enhances the recognition, support, and career development opportunities for SCPs by developing a revised and refreshed Curriculum and establishing the MVR.
Joining the register means you are joining the official database of Surgical Care Practitioners and the wider surgical community.
As a member benefit, Affiliates, Members and Fellows of the RCSEd Faculty of Perioperative Care and Associate Members of RCS England can now register with the MVR for FREE. Members of the Association of Surgical Care Practitioners can also benefit from free registration for a limited time.
