Impact of gender, ethnicity and social deprivation on access to surgical or transcatheter aortic valve replacement in aortic stenosis: a retrospective database study in England


This study, from a large national dataset, indicating that women, Black and Asian patients, and those in the poorest areas in the country are much less likely to receive aortic valve replacement, is an important wake up call for the profession. The exact reasons underpinning these findings are poorly understood but there is an urgent need for policy changes to understand and address these findings.
