New post: the National Consultant Information Programme (NCIP): national clinical lead for cardiac surgery

The Society have agreed to work with NHS England Improvement to identify a suitable candidate to lead the development of the NCIP programme in cardiac surgery, within NHS England Improvement.  The post will attract 1 PA, funded by NHSEI, and will run for six months in the first instance.

NCIP aims to support clinicians with learning and continuous self-development with respect to the services they deliver. The programme will provide both team and clinician-level activity and outcome metrics about the whole of a clinician’s practice, delivered through a secure online portal hosted by NHS Improvement.

This role will involve working with the NCIP and GIRFT teams to identify and develop clinically relevant metrics in cardiac surgery, within a wider cardiothoracic surgery work stream.  These will be used to develop an online tool to support individual clinicians and teams to reflect on and improve their outcomes.

Candidates should be currently practicing adult cardiac surgery within the NHS in England.  Experience in clinical quality improvement would be an advantage.

Further information is available from Doug West, GIRFT Cardiothoracic Clinical Lead douglas.west1@nhs.net.

Interested candidates should mail a letter of application together with a current curriculum vitae to Isabelle Former at the SCTS secretariat.  Online interviews will be held by the Society, and a recommendation subsequently made to NCIP.

Applications in the form of a short CV with covering letter outlining the applicant’s interest in the post and relevant experiences should be sent by email (with “cardiac NCIP” in the subject line) to isabelle@scts.org by midday Tuesday 12th October 2021.
