Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery Fellowship

2022/2023

Given the general reduction in mortality and morbidity in patients undergoing cardiac surgery, there has been an increasing interest in further methods to improve the outcomes of surgery.

Whilst the majority of Cardiac Surgery trainees will be exposed to minimally invasive surgery during their training, the emphasis is generally on the acquisition of skills related to conventional cardiac surgery and the competent management of cardiac surgical emergencies.

We are therefore pleased to announce an exciting fellowship opportunity at St Thomas’ Hospital, and in partnership with the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals, in minimally invasive cardiac surgery. This fellowship aims to equip junior cardiac surgeons in the latter part of their training with the skills and techniques of minimally invasive cardiac surgery. This will be a structured programme and will expose the fellow to the workup of patients for minimally invasive surgery as well as providing regular operative experience and hands on training under the mentorship of experienced minimally invasive surgeons. There will also be opportunity for the fellow to participate in research related to minimally invasive cardiac surgery. The post would ideally be suited to trainees who have completed the FRCS (CTh) and who have completed training or are within 6 months of completing training.

The Fellowship will be starting in October 2022 – please email your expression of interest, CV and Logbook to the Fellowship’s Director, Mr Gianluca Lucchese, by 02/09/22. Click here for more information.
