About the Unit
We are a supra regional centre for thoracic surgery covering the whole range of thoracic surgery and with specialist interest in LVRS surgery, VATS sympathectomy, metastectomy (VATS and open), chest trauma, MDRTB and complex pulmonary infection surgery, chest wall surgery including neoplasia and pectus surgery, surgery of the airways (resectional and palliation including laser ablation and PDT), and VATS lobectomy.

About the unit
The cardiac unit at Walsgrave Hospital, part of UHCW NHS Trust, is a specialist tertiary Cardiac Centre. It was established in 1970 and serves a population of 1.5 million across Coventry, Warwickshire and beyond. In July 2006 the unit transfered to the new University Hospital which is one of the biggest hospital complexes in the UK.

Drop off points and disabled car parking are available near the entrance to the new University Hospital. There are several buses which also stop at the entrance. Pay and Display car parking in operation.
Visiting hours
Ward visiting is 2.00pm – 4.00pm and 6.30pm – 8.00pm. No fixed hours for intensive care.

The Cardiac Division provides Tertiary Cardiac Services based at Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre Hospitals NHS Trust and serves a population of 1.6 million for Lancashire & South Cumbria.

Rehabilitation and follow up
Follow up is generally 6 weeks to the appropriate surgeon with a discharge back to the GP or cardiologist. Cardiac rehabilitation is provided locally for Blackpool patients, or if from an adjacent area, appropriate contact is made with the local hospital's rehab team to ensure continuity of care – this extends into Lancaster, Cumbria, Preston, Chorley, Blackburn, & Burnley.

The new build complies with all aspects of the Disability Discrimination Act.
Visiting hours
Ward visiting is 8.00-13.00 and 14.30-20.00 with a quiet time between 13.00 and 14.30. Open visiting for intensive care.

About the unit
The cardiothoracic unit at the University Hospital of Wales is part of the Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust and was established in 1971 to provide specialised care for a population of 1.4 million in South Wales.

Rehabilitation and follow up
Follow up is with the appropriate consultant surgeon approximately 6 weeks after discharge from hospital. Thereafter patients are usually discharged back to their referring physician / cardiologist or General Practitioner. Cardiac rehabilitation is provided locally for catchment patients or if from an adjacent area the appropriate contact is made with the local hospital's rehabilitation team to ensure continuity of care.
Access
There is a drop-off zone next to the main hospital concourse entrance. Adjacent to the hospital there is a multi story car park, as well as designated parking for the disabled with wheelchair access to the hospital
Visiting hours
General Ward and High Dependancy Ward visiting hours are 15H00 – 20H00. There are no fixed hours for patients in the intensive care unit.
