DESCRIPTION:\n\nDifficult decisions in heart valve surgery: An evidence-based approach\n\nThis meeting will provide one of the first opportunities in a long time for cardiac surgeons, trainees and anyone with an interest in heart valve disease to meet in person.\n\nDuring this meeting, aimed at all those who are interested in Heart Valve Disease, indications and helpful guides for the treatment of these patients will be presented by a diverse faculty from all over the U.K. and abroad who are experts in the field. \n\nCan't make this meeting in person? Click here to book the live stream.\n\nThere are many factors that determine how such patients are treated surgically on the day and we are privileged to have as a speaker, Professor Rhonda Flin an eminent psychologist from The University of Aberdeen who is an expert in Human Factors and who is involved with the NOTSS programme at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. \n\nWe are also very excited to have Professor Steve Bolling from the University of Michigan in the US who has published widely on heart valve disease including the treatment of functional mitral and tricuspid regurgitation. He will speak to us on the surgery of functional tricuspid regurgitation. \n\nDuring the meeting, selected complex heart valve disease case discussionssubmitted by trainees and students will also be discussed in an MDT-type forum. Prizes will be awarded for the best presentations. \n\nTopics include: \n\nNon-technical factors that influence cardiac surgeons during complex heart valve surgeriesThe evidence behind decisions to manage functional regurgitation in the mitral or tricuspid positionsManagement of the small aortic rootBest way to treat degeneration of tissue valveCase Presentation Prize\n\nSubmit a 250-word abstract on a case presentation of a patient with heart valve disease (aortic, and/or mitral and/or tricuspid).  The best six submissions will be picked for presentation on the day.\n\nPrize:\n\n2 prizes of One year’s free RSM membership and a bottle of champagne will be given to the best morning and best afternoon presentations as judged by a panel of experts\n\nSubmission deadline: Friday 30 April 2021\n\nOpen to: All pre-clinical and clinical cardiothoracic students and trainees.\n\nSubmit here\n\n \n\n
