Professor Redmond is a pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon with a special interest in adult and pediatric syndromic and familial thoracic aortic diseases. He trained as a general and cardiothoracic surgeon at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore Md, USA, completing a pediatric cardiac surgical fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and a thoracoabdominal aortic fellowship at Baylor, Texas, USA.
His areas of research include the genetic basis of aortic pathologies, the inflammatory response to cardiopulmonary bypass and the neurologic sequelae of hypothermic circulatory arrest.
He has developed a pediatric cardiothoracic unit in Pediatric Hospital 2 in Saigon, Vietnam and is currently developing pediatric cardiac services in the Middle East.
He is co-founder and co-owner of Beacon Hospital, Dublin, Ireland
